Try:
ifconfig eth0 ###.###.###.##1
ifconfig eth0:0 ###.###.###.##2
ifconfig eth0:1 ###.###.###.##3
ifconfig eth0:2 ###.###.###.##4
though, I would recommend using netcfg to set up eth0, then create
aliases (eth0:0, eth0:1...) using the "alias" button.
