Runlevels

Thanks all for the enlightenment on Enlightenment. That helps a great deal.

I'm sure this can be answered quickly by a pro, whereas I'm looking all
around in my documentation. I'd like to boot up my server in single user
mode. I looked at the Linux System Administrator's Guide and in Chapter 6
it mentions that shutdown can also be used to bring the system down to
single user mode; however, it doesn't specify the options to do so. My
O'Reilly "Linux in a Nutshell" doesn't seem to specify the option either,
unless it is -h halt or -n shutdown without call to init. It's unclear to
me.

However, what I'd really like to do is boot up the system into single user
mode (runlevel 1?).

Pointers to more information, or commands would be appreciated. Thanks!
