It may be easier, but a lot of the time, it doesn't work. Doing an MS
OS upgrade has long been a reliable way to subtly screw up your
system. After you realize things aren't working, you'll get the
following advice: "Reformat drive, install older version, install
never version, and then install any apps and hardware you need, since
the upgrade OSes only work reliably on a bare install."
Most non-techy users never upgrade their OS, they just buy a new
computer.
