NIS Questions

I've never used NIS before and thought I'd try it out.  However, after
reading the HOWTO's it seems that some files are modified and some brand
new ones added.

If I start this little devil up will I be able to easily remove it and go
back to scratch or is this a "till death do we part" relationship??
