I've been playing With NIS to gain some experience with it.
I installed both the server and client on one host and just the client on
a second host. Now I have some questions...
1. when shutting down I get a message that "ypbind has failed to set
AF_INET in udp send_message. Fix it." What the hell does this mean???
2. running ypcat passwd will show all users on the server host but none of
the users on the client host. Is this correct?
3. I can log on the client host using a user name and password of a user
from the server host. However, as there isn't a home directory I start
off in the root directory (/). Is this correct?
4. As a user without a home directory I'm missing a lot (can't start
X-windows, no netscape, etc). What the normal procedure to get underway.
Would the user telnet to his home box and start from there?
Gerry
