2 second system freezes ? RH 6

Ever since I upgraded to 6 from 5.2 I have problems
with the system freezing for about a second or
two every 2 minutes or so.

If I am typing, everything stops (keyboard buffer
continues to see input however) then it starts
and everything comes back to life.  Almost like 
the box is completely compute bound for a second or
two.

I have a Pent Pro 200 with adaptec 2940 ultra scsi card
with SCSI disks.  I have 128MB of RAM and 40MB swap.

Any ideas ?
