Believe it or not, but I stumbled upon the answer of the Redhat support
web site:

	http://www.redhat.com/cgi-bin/support?faq

The very first FAQ item listed is the Netscape Java crash.  It turns out
that the installation failed to install a font path and Netscape fell over.

Follow the instructions and all will be well.
