XFree86 and xfs - True Type Fonts

I am running a stock RH 6.0 install.  So far I have not been able to
get TTF working, and I am somwhat confused by the relationship of
'xfsft' and 'xfs'.

I am running XFree86-3.3.3.1-49.  The latest I find is
XFree86-3.3.3.1-52.  Is there any significant difference between these
two in regards to True Type Fonts.

How does xfsft relate to xfs?  I thought xfs was the font server, but
not I just dunno.
