Turns out it was the remnants of a hack.  My machine got compromised a
while back -- I thought mostly unsuccessfully -- but it turns out the
little beast did manage to alter a few binaries on my system, one of
which was ls.  It will never display any file called ssh.

He got ps too.  It also greps out ssh.

The little stinker.

Ah, well.  Live and learn.  Thank goodness for "rpm -qa|xargs rpm
-Vv|grep ^S" for saving me a whole lot of aggravation.  Now off to the
archives for the real versions...
