ASUS P5A-B with ALI Chip and Patch for Kernel 2.2.x

Has anyone run the patch to allow DMA transfers for the ALI 1543c
chipset?  It stops you from getting the message at boot up:

I got one, through linux mirrors but I'm not quite sure how to use it. 
I think it's patch < patchname isn't it?

At any rate, I think I need to update the kernel to something greater
that 2.2.5-12 to use any of them.  It was in
linux/kernel/people/hedrick.

Any info?
