RE: kernel compile error

zImage is obsolete, use bzImage instead. This will make a compressed image
so you should be able to put everything you took out, back in. BTW I went
through the same thing a few months ago.

Subject: kernel compile error

Hi guys, i'm new to the list. I'm having trouble and figured maybe someone
here could help.
I just reinstalled redhat on my test machine (i added new hardware and was
having trouble configuring it) and made some kernel config changes using
make xconfig. After, i ran a make dep and then a make zImage. At the end of
the make zImage it gave me the error that the kernel was too big. I was
surprised that my 774K kernel was too large (Sco's is almost 6MB). So i
went back and got rid of everything i didn't need and made a bunch of
things into modules. I ran a make dep and this time a make clean before a
make zImage and got the same error, this time with a 570K kernel. I checked
the size of the one i have now and its 996K!?! I've using a make bzImage
which worked but I couldn't get lilo to boot it (make zlilo gave me the too
large error) and the make zdisk gives me the same error. I read around and
couldn't find anything. Any help is appriciated.

TIA

jeff
