I guess you NEED Linux otherwise you're not going to have the choices you
want. That's the beauty of an open OS, you can modify it to your delight.
I think null passwords, like:
root::0:0:root:/root:/bin/bash
should work. If it doesn't, please describe exactly what happens and the
version you are using.
If you know any programming, and if you installed the source, you could
probably also hack login to do this. You could probably download one...
Or, set your machine on the net for an evening and I'm sure some friendly
cracker would be happy to install his for you.
On my copies of RH, only root has the 'rm -i' alias so I see that you are
doing everything as root. I think a more convenient way to compromise your
system will be to give yourself UID 0 as in:
Duncan::0:0:Not afraid of danger:/home/Duncan:/bin/bash
BTW, I'm sure you realize that these are hardly unique to RedHat or even Linux.
