detect new hardware?

hi,

whenever the rh6.1 boot, it does checking new hardware every time and
always FAIL after a while ( a long while ). it reports something wrong
about IPV4, blah, blah... 

I am sure it could be toggle off in init scripts.  May you guru pls tell
me if you happen to know it.
