what happened is a while ago (few months ) my ppp connections started to
drop almost right after I connect, and I have to dial again. the time
was variable to be disconnected. of course I tried everything I can
think of and even called the ISP, who said everything was working fine
on there side. I don't remember that I have installed or uninstalled
anything unusual.

then I started to dig a little deeper and found out that there was some
error messages in the /var/log/messages when I am being disconnected,
it said something about ppp compression. so I went on Deja News and made
few searches and came up with the lines I mentioned, since then every
thing was fixed and I lived happily ever after :)

I honestly don't remember exactly why it worked but it was something
about a ppp compression module that I had to alias .. !!!

may be somebody smarter can explain it for all of us :(

BTW I run RH6.0 with default kernel 2.2.5.15. and ppp 2.3.7
