LILO refuses to load

I'm having terrible trouble installing Red Hat5.0.  Lilo refuses to load.  I've installed and
reinstalled my system
dozens of times.  I've checked documentation all over the place and nothing seems to work
I've created a /boot partition.........................didn't work
I've selected linear.......................................didn't work
I've selected /dev/hda master boot record.........................didn't work
I've selected /dev/hda1 ........................................didn't work

I'm lost as to what to do.  I had no problems with Caldera 2.2 on the same machine.
My Hdd is 4 gigs.  Disk druid tells me that my disk has only 525 cylinders, so I have no clue what
the problem
is.  Any help would be appreciated!
