I've been following Linux certification and I've heard that the
participants in the RHCE are quite pleased with the program. I think of it
as primarily appealing to individuals who feel a need for training or
having the Red Hat name on their certification. If you haven't, check out
the certification spot on the redhat site, I recall it having a pretty
detailed syllabus.
Without knowing more, I suspect if you have $2500 and a few days and are
new to Linux you'll be happy with your investment. I do not think that you
can expect the pay increment today that a cert from Microsoft, Novell,
Cisco, etc. offers other professionals. I suppose that will come with time
(although we'd all like to think that companies will just recognize and
reward us for our actual work accomplishments!).
If training is not what you're looking to buy, there is a much cheaper
certification testing being offered by Sair through Sylvan and I've been
advising the folks at LPI who are working hard on an open, non-commercial
cert. The LPI site has a lot of links including, I think, one to Sair:
www.lpi.org
-Alan
PS - LPI is actively seeking exam questions so you experts have a chance to
contribute (more) if you'd like. There are details on the LPI site.
Please help!
