Firstly, make sure your machine has a hostname
type 'hostname' (no quotes) and see what comes back
it should read back what you selected as your computers hostname during
installation..
if nothing you recognise is in there try this:
hostname mywebserver
This will set the hostname to mywebserver.. this must be done as root.
Edit the /etc/hosts file and add an entry that looks like this:
<ip address of machine> mywebserver
So if your machines IP address is 192.168.154.12, the hosts entry should
look like
192.168.154.12 mywebserver
Close this down and try rebooting. In theory apache should then start on
bootup.
It's getting late so I might have missed something.. let me know.

Thanks for all your responses. I found httpd in /usr/sbin and when I
executed it I got the following:
httpd: cannot determine local host name.
Use the ServerName directive to set it manually.
...Which is only natural as I haven't configured anything yet! Could someone
hint me on where I can find good basic info on getting apache up and
running?
I have already checked the www.apache.org site with a "Linux" search which
produced nothing much. I have checked the HOW-TO's at redhat.com with
little results and I have checked the man files for httpd on my
redhat.....but I am a beginner and so the man files were a little difficult
to understand.
Thanks in advance and any pointers to Apache basics are appreciated.
