I just did this so maybe I can help. Use Linuxconf (you instaled it,
right?) as Jan Carlson suggests and then I used minicom (?) just as the
howto (ISP-hppkup?) suggested to test the connection. Minicom allows you
to make sure your modem is connected and compatible. Unfortunately, if
you're having trouble this may well be it; many modems sold today are not
compatible with Linux.
