Cyrix M II 3x compatibility

Hi, all..
I recently experienced problems with Linux running on a Cyrix MII 3x. I
had a lot of kernel oopses occur, and then I discovered that I had
compiled the kernel as a PII. I recompiled it as a 386, though I'm
still getting kernel oopses on it.
At this point, I'm considering yanking out the Cyrix and dropping in a
genuine Intel P-233 unless any workarounds exist. Are there any?
