ppp connection not activating on boot

I have a ppp configuration hta works fine (as root) if I do a ifup
ppp0. It was created in linuxconf, and I selected activate at
boot. However, when the machine boots, it attempts to make the ppp
connection, but always fails. It will continue to retry and fail until I
do a ifdown/fup manually, when it works as expected.

Would you mind CCing replies diectly to me at charles galpin org please
since I'm on vacation, and am unable to keep track of the list :)
