Yes, absolutely spot on. I installed RH61 after using RH51 for some two years
(and found to be a great system) only so I could access the latest glibc for
Adobe's FrameMaker beta.
Since then I have had no end of problems with getting anything to print -- I
can at least print from the command line and I can print test pages from the
printtool, which seems to be more than most other people are to do. I posted a
service request at RedHat and their reply was that they do not support
networked printer connections, but they did at least try to *sell* me some
service (and I'd like to know who is going to pay the airfare to NZ).
From what I can see the lpd/lpr commands are broken, just like the ppp dialer is
broken (I had to enter noauth into the pppd config to get it to stop looking
for secret passwords on my machine -- and why there, well because anything
ppp-wise needs to go that way I guess). And before anyone mentions it, yes the
update in the Errata does not fix the problem -- deals mainly with security
issues.
Now the question is, how do we get the ever deafened RedHat to do anything
about this.
