No more ptys?

Evening:

I just upgraded to the 2.2.16 kernel, and now I'm getting an error message
from an expect script I used to be able to run with no problems.  It's now
giving the error message "no more ptys" available.  I've added nothing on
my system, and when I look in /dev there is a lot of ptys.  Anyone else
notice this problem?
