i'm running it as follows:

ntop -w 100

which should place it in web mode listening to port 100. however, when i
try to access it with

http://192.168.1.1:100 or
http://linux:100

i get the following:

Network error
Unable to read URL from host 192.168.1.1: no response from server

i get the same response regardless of the port i specify. what am i
missing?

Any port? Are you running it as root? 100 is a privileged port. I would try something > 1000. But I think you must still be root to run it.
