alias behaviour different in 7.1 ?

Hi

        in 6.2 - if I had an alias [in /etc/aliases] called people which
        referenced bob, carol ted & alice and bob send email to
        people then bob would NOT receive the original posting - only
        the others in the group (viz. carol, ted & alice)

        in 7.1 bob DOES receive his post.  Just wondering if there
        is a setting in sendmail to make it behave as in 6.2
