Kernel crash

I just upgraded to 7.1 (kernel v. 2.4.2) from 7.0
(kernel v. 2.2.19-7.0.8).  Now my computer will freeze
after running the screensaver for a while in X.  Is
this common (is there a fix) or just me (time to
tweak)?
