No. I'm assuming that since this is a redhat list, it relates to redhat
layouts, manpages, etc. Since 4.2 (maybe before) it is 'man lilo' or
'man lilo.conf' for the answer to the question. If this had been a suse
or debian or mandrake or yellowdog list, I'd have held my peace because
I don't know entirely (a little mandrake and a little yellowdog but, not
enough to answer).

Great that your suse 7.0 is rock solid. My RH 7.1 is also rock solid,
likely at least in part _BECAUSE_ of who knows what RH has tinkered
with.

Now, go troll somewhere else if you feel the need. I hear there's a vast
shortage in the newsgroups.
