CD writers - help please

Could somebody help and sugest Linux compatibile CD writers USB and SCSI
port as well ( external and internal ).
I have Cd writer HP 8230 for USB, but it is not fully recognized by
Xcdroast, it is recognized as external cd rom only. I´m running RH 7.1,
but I don´t know how to solve it.
