I believe this is related to the max number of pty's the kernel will allow
you to allocate. It is set in the source AFAIK, but can be increased on
the fly by changing a value in one the /proc critters. Sorry don't
remember which one. I think there was a discussion on this topic on this
list about 3-4 months ago. You search the archives or search using
