updating nfs on the fly

Hi,

I want to add another volume to the /etc/exports on one of the machines
in our NIS network.  I add the new entry, and do 'exportfs', but the new
entry does not show up in the list of exported volumes that scrolls by
on the screen.  I find that I have to restart nfs on the exporting
machine to accept a new volume to export.  Is there a way to add a new
exported volume without having to restart nfs?  These machines are 6.2
and 7.1.  Thanks,
