RE: files with tar.gz

Everybody else is jumpin in on this so here's my $1.50 (I apologize in
advance is someone mentioned this already)

I use lynx, the web browser to easily expand my *.tar.gz files. Just
navigate to the directory where the file is located type "lynx ." ,this will
list all the files in the directory. Move down to the file you want to
expand and hit "f" for full menu, from the menu choose "expand". Viola it's
done!

Sure it is, right at the top with all the rest of the options.

	...
	[ -Z, --compress, --uncompress ] [ -z, --gzip --gunzip ]

If you go in for that sort of thing, use the file manager in your window
manager.  Many file managers recognize compressed archives and "opening"
them will uncompress and unpack in one step.  You don't even have to
start the program yourself.  Just like Windows.
