: I'm looking for some real world advice on dedicated hosting - I have had a
: Cobalt server but I want to get away from that to a Redhat box. There's
lots
: of advertising out there, but it's mostly lies.
: If you have a good recommendation, please let me know.
I think you'll have to ask a more specific question to get good answers.
In the past, I've used RedHat 6.2 then 7.0 (yes, 7.0) on a Dell PowerEdge
1300 with (the then standard) 9GB SCSI drive and 256 MB RAM. The CPU was a
single PII 450 or so. I was hosting a low bandwidth, all-CGI site through a
128K ISDN. This configuration was way over-powered for the bandwidth but
the equipment wasn't that expensive and worked excellant (never crashed in
the two years I was there).
Is that helpful?
