You won't like this. I just tried out KDE and it still exists. Not so with
xfce, icewm or sawfish or swordfish or swordswinger or kettlefish or
whatever the gnome wm is called. It appears it has to do with KDE.
You options are:
1. Report it to the KDE folk and ask them to fix it.
2. Write to the xv author and ask him to fix it.
3. Live with it.
4. Find something other than xv.
5. Use something other than KDE. (This was one of the possibilities I
thought may have fixed my problem and it did: I use icewm).
Sorry I didn't think to try KDE earlier and save you some time and grief.
