Re: CD-R's

From: Blake Thornton <thornton math utah edu>

: questions. Now, I have read when writing to cd CD, you should keep most
: applications closed. My question is now: is that because these
: applications are wanting to write to IDE and are getting in the way of the
: CD-R?

I guess if you have the CD on the same card as a hard-drive, then IDE writes
could pose a problem. If you can isolate the CD to it's own card, that
would be better.

But I *think* the advice you saw is because open programs can cause data
flow to the CR to slow which could ruin a CD. For example, it's not
uncommon for my Netscape to freak out and start using huge chunks of CPU and
MEM. So surfing the web on my Linux machine while I burn a CR could cause
the CR burn to fail.
