your servers with a public address must be physically connected to the same
network as the router, that is :
- on one hub / thin cable : the router, gateway eth1, the 3 public servers
- on another one : gateway eth0, private stations
the private stations have to see the gateway's eth0 ip as their default router
so the private stations can access the public servers through the gateway
and the internet through the gateway and the router.
the public servers have to see the router as their default gateway to
communicate with the internet world, but they must also have a static route
to your private network through the gateway eth1 ip to be able to
communicate with your private stations. of course your gateway must be able
to act as a router.
there might be solutions with putting your public servers "behind" the
gateway, that is :
- router --- eth1(gateway)eth0 --- private stations and public servers
in this case you would have to configure your gateway as both
router/nat/firewall for the private stations and transparent bridge for the
public servers. may be possible without brain damage ?
