I'd force the bios to re-read the disk info - by selecting 'auto'
and hitting the return/enter key. I'd also set the option from
LBA to normal.
Providing everything agrees then try installing 6.2 and subsequently 7.1
For the sake of a few dollars I'd be inclined to invest in a fresh CD set
of 7.1 - see previous comments
