Speaking from experience, and not with authority, I suspect this is a
term emulation artifact. Notice that vi always indents this way; the
difference in this case is that instead of whitespace, you're seeing
underscores. I've seen that too, on occasion, but never reliably
enough to determine a cause.
Try another term type, and let me know if that helps. I'd love to know
what that's about too.
