Have you tried to tar directly to the device?

 

eg: tar myfile /dev/rmt0  (or whatever the device is?)

 

I would make sure this works before trying to use a backup package.

I have a machine that I have installed a SCSI DAT drive. I'm looking for some good docs on how to make backups, actual commands not what to backup etc. I'm using Redhat 7.1 but just cant seem to get it to work ....

Any pointers etc would be appreciated ....
