When you talk about Red Hat 7.2, are you referring to Roswell or the other
newer Beta version?  Perhaps you're referring to Red Hat 7.1?

In any case, I've seen quite a few NFS interoperability issues between
IRIX and Linux that normally get fixed after switching the mounts to NFSv2.
By the way, keep in mind that the main difference between this Red Hat 7.2
that you mention and SuSE 7.0 or 7.2 should be the kernel, at least as far
as NFS is affected.  What kernels are those versions of SuSE running?  Did
you try compiling and installing the same kernel version in Red Hat?
