I have the same drive, and used to get these messages too. At the time I
blamed it on VMWare (with windows running). This was really a guess and I
never proved it.

The other thing could be the program that detects when CDs are inserted
and launches apps (forget the name).

For whatever reason it has ceased for me (and I haven't used VMWare for a
while). I'm also runnign 7.1 on that machine right now.
