I haven't nuked the rpm database by design or accident, so I don't have
the pleasure of the experience to draw upon. BUT, before you do so at
backup (make a copy of the database) prior to this exercise. I reviewed
the man page for rpm and couldn't determine if --initdb will accomplish
what you seek. Might give www.rpm.org a shot and read the maximum rpm
book to see if it might help.
