What is PGP Key ?

Hi all,

Many a times I 've seen some Alphanumeric characters before or after the
list messages in the list emails, for example in Anthony E. Greene email
message:-
PGP Key: 0x6C94239D/7B3D BD7D 7D91 1B44 BA26  C484 A42A 60DD 6C94 239D

I don't understand it ? What does it stand for PGP ?
Is this something which is described as "Digital Signature" ? If so, then
who generate's it ? How it is authenticated?
Although its not related to linux subject, but i think it will be usefull in
linux too and clear my concepts.
