PGP is an encryption tool that allows you to encrypt messages, files and just
about anything you wish and it is considered to be very secure. There is a
number called a key fingerprint that allows people to identify your key. I
didn't look real close but that is probably what you have here. There is
also a function that allows you to use your key to digitally sign your
messages. To put it in simple terms it looks at your message and makes a
note of what it says and pipes it through an algorythm and the numbers are
what comes out. If someone checks on the other end then they know it was
written by you and that it hasn't been changed.
Red Hat I believe ships with GPG now which is an open source version of the
same basic thing and they do work together. Do a man gpg and you will find
what you need to know. Some mailers like kmail have built in functions for
using PGP and GPG also. Give it a try. If you ask me everyone should use
it. Cuts down on fraud and when used to fully encrypt it keeps Uncle Sam out
also.
