But there's no Makefile for turning the .tex files into something 
readable, the archive is labeled a .tgz when it's really a .tar (a pet 
peeve of mine, and seems really common lately), and there's no set of 
instructions to explain any of this; there's a brief note telling how to 
read .ps files, but any newbie who could benefit from this laudible 
effort stands at least an even chance of not being able to get at the 
documents.

Typical Linux. Slam-dunk the hard stuff, fuddle the trivial stuff, and 
then stand back and watch as some bozo on the Red Hat list just bitches 
about what you've done instead of fixing it for you.
