I had problems with roadrunner when I signed on. I told them I had a MAC
(which they support) and 2 other machines. I told them I wouldn't
connect one of them (the 'Doze box, which is my 2-year-old's game box)
and I was going to handle the other one.
The first girl asked if I had a machine with Windows 95 or above. I told
her I had a MAC. She put me on hold and 1/2 hour later I was hungup.
The second girl asked me if I had Windows 95 or above. I told her ,no, I
have a MAC. She said, "Okay, do you have Windows 95 or above?" I told
her no, I have a MAC, which they support according to the ad I had in my
hand. She hung up on me right away.
The third time I called I got a guy. I said "Look, if you don't know
what a MAC is don't worry about it. I have 2 machines and I want you to
run a line and leave a modem. I'll take care of everything else." He
told me the reason the others hung up was because they didn't know what
a MAC was because they don't get any training beyond how to fill a form
in and what cards to read when they answer a line. Everything else is
referred to a supervisor.
Ah, mediocrity: the spice of life!
