I've tried compiling bonobo 1.0.4-1.0.8 and I receive:
checking ORBit version... 0.5.7
configure: error: ORBit 0.5.8 or later required

for each of them. I've got ximian gnome installed on a test machine but I'd 
like to be able to install evolution on our main X server which is not 
running ximian, so Im trying to get it running with plain old gnome.

did you install ximian? or did you install evolution from the rpms?
