He did say it was Telocity (in the last line, which you clipped.
Telocity uses two different router boxes. Type I (beige box) is a
standard chipset, but I can't recall exactly what it is. Type II (grey
monolith) is a custom chipset.
Vijay, when you say diagnostics, how are you getting them? What happens
when you try to visit http://10.5.1.2 in Netscape? What happens when you
bring the Linux box's eth0 up ("ifup eth0")? Does it DHCP correctly?
What does "ifconfig" report? Hal is right about the cable too--are you
sure the computer/gateway cable is good? Does it work in another context?
Have you called Telocity tech support yet? They usually can help at least
somewhat with Linux. If you get stuck with them, come back and tell us
how far you got.
