DSL configuration on Linux - Round Two

To continue the previous DSL thread, I'm setting up a RH7.1
firewall/gateway to DSL.  The provider is Verizon.  

The issue I'm having is the dhcp info is retrieved and setup but the IP
connectivity will disappear within 1-3 minutes.  Doing a 
"ifdown eth0; ifup eth0" will clear it up, for about 1-3 minutes.  I'm
wondering if others have had this symptom before and did it get resolved?
