Slow network?

My redhat box is networked in for the time being, but I'm not getting the
network speed I had hoped to have.  I've talked to IT, and they don't
really want to help me with my linux box, so I figured if it is my
problem, I might be able to do something.

I'm not sure what to check out on this one.  Could someone direct me at a
starting place?
