Right-click on desktop and select "New laucher" to put an icon on your
desktop or find "Menu Editor" in your menus (I think it's in Settings) to
add the icon to your menus.

  tar -zxvf program-version.tar.zg
  cd program-version
  less README
  less INSTALL
  ./configure
  make
  make test (often optional)
  make install (if all of the above worked correctly)
