Aha then you would want to take a peep into /boot, the kernel would clearly be
labelled smp, this helps to know which kernel(s) type are installed. They will
be something-2.4.18-5smp or something like that, there will be no mistaking
that. But if you aren't sure I would just install xosview and see if the two
processors are reported or even as you have done uname -a will indicate a kernel
that is smp. /proc/cpuinfo may also hold some clues.
If you aren't using grub then shame upon you :) :) :) :) lilo is far to
unfriendly as well as featureless (I use this word very very cautiously).
